"What's special about this album (other than the music)? The process:
After spending nearly three months very next to not playing a single note, due to my involvement in music projects that I thought were that important, I couldn't take it anymore. I finally freed myself to play again after doing more work to my studio and 100+ year old piano. By the time I finished tuning the piano to record, it was already night time. In most cases, the ideal time to record is not after you haven't been playing for three months, and not after you've already spent your day's energy, but I was determined to make this happen no matter what. I didn't even give myself time to warm up - I just dove in head first and didn't stop until the last note. And so the album was written: I didn't change a single thing. Every note is there from start to finish exactly the way I played it that night: completely spontaneous." ~Rich Smith |
